Loading up for the trip to the island. Isn't it lovely how rested and clean everyone looks?

Everything that we need for 4 days on the island has to be taken over by boat - food, art supplies, film - because there are no commerical facilities on the island. At the end of our visit, all trash has to be taken off the island.

Janet can tell you exactly what species moth this is, and she spotted it by the side of the road from a Jeep that was travelling at 20 miles an hour. That is impressive, especially when you consider that the brown moth is lying atop brown leaves. It helped that it was about 4 inches wide, but still....

Orange Night, 2006. Who won this year? The participation level was just excellent.

Orange Night is a tradition that began when Carla realized that all the food for that meal was orange.

Lest we forget that Ossabaw Island is a wild place, there are amphibious friends to remind us. And in case you ever need this information: If an alligator is chasing you, you can avoid being eaten by running a zig-zag pattern. Good to know, huh?

One more entry in the "Wild Things" department. On the last morning, some of the artists were prowling around one of the old buildings at Middle Place, within several feet of this guy. Only the slight movement of his head alerted us to his presence. Estimated length: 6 feet.

So what do you do when you find yourself a bit lost in the middle of a 26,000-acre barrier island, in a borrowed Jeep and stuck axle-deep in mud? When the combined weight of three adventurers barely tops 300 pounds?

Well, you get creative, inventive, push a little bit and then strike a victory pose!

And here's the rest of the story... we huffed and puffed and got unstuck... and then remembered that the Jeep has 4-wheel drive. Oh.
